The Hail Mill Runs Backward

Inside the film.

Above the invented cloud garden hangs the hail mill Rika with four copper shovel arms and a glass spiral tube. Normally it hurls frozen grains downward; when the garden dries out, the little cloud mice Fenn, Tupi, and Loro turn the core around and guide exactly eight black hailstones against gravity. Each stage changes the size, sound, and memory of the grains, turning an old storm machine into a non-human irrigation layer whose rules and weather remain entirely synthetic and fictional.
